who do you think you are ?

Social Media play an enormous role in today's generation. Most millenniums have an account on some sort of platform, whether it be Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, etc. Social Media definitely impacts in my life, from what i view everyday to what i publicize and expose other people too, to my opinion on certain matters. I constantly check my Instagram feed when I could be reading up on current events or even catching up on art homework.

I have been doing a lot of traveling during the past 6 months and you can bet I have posted at least 3 pictures of every place that i have visited on instagram/facebook. Your pictures kind of shape who you are, what other people see on your personal page is what your first impression will be. Sure, you can still meet people in person but social media is just becoming more popular, more practical, something that people are adapting to more and more as the days go by. If you were to make your first impression on me based off my ig page, you would think i'm a "traveler" although that isn't exactly the case. You only post the good content and the positive, you have the power to share whatever you want to share and i think that is a huge advantage. I do think that social media has shaped a good percentage of who i am today.

The media influences have the biggest impact on millenniums, although it does not necessarily have to be a negative one. There is always a subliminal message underlying every ad we see, every commercial we watch, all the news we are told. I personally believe in a few conspiracies, for example the Rothschild family controlling what the media shows and portrays. I think that social media will always have the power to influence weak minds, but social media is also a great platform to get messages out, to be heard, to empower yourselves.

Media tends to ignore activists, protesters, acts of resistance. I feel like social media is not enough to start and sustain a successful protest. Social Media is excellent to get your thought across, to try and get your message out there, but you are going to have to go out there and take it one step further. You can tweet and hashtag everything, but is that really a movement? Until you interact with the community and take action, Media can only bring you so far. A good example is BLM, you can tweet #BLM all you want but until you go out and protest there will be no movement. The media usually does not portray these movements in the best way, typically you see terrible images of protesters going wild, burning flags, starting riots and this might not necessarily be the case. We must find new means to get our messages across, somewhere where our voices are heard much louder.
