Acts of Resistance
Quotes from seeing Power
"There is another kind of confusion associated with social capital: the question of intentionality. While we intuitively understand that people need to network and hustle, we no longer know if people are doing things to produce meaning or to produce more social capital. Which leads to a paranoia of intentions." pg 95.
Because people of a certain class hold a social status, majority times they will attract people with bad intentions, such as gaining there own popularity. This makes it hard to maintain and produce genuine friendships because you can never be too sure on peoples true intentions.
"Our age of manipulation produces an inexorable quandary. In order to make the world legible, we try to understand the intention behind any cultural gesture" Pg 97
Todays generation is easily manipulated, and with all of the social media outlets that this generation is being raised upon its impossible to prevent a state of perplexity in a difficult situation. In order to make the intentions clear to our generation, it is imperative that we know the true meaning behind any cultural indications.
Quotes from New Yorker Pussy Riot's Trial
"Masha Alekhina: I am accused of quasi-violent actions. But violence is used against me"
I found this line interesting to see what they acquitted her actions with, using the lawful term quasi-violent which basically means resembling a criminal act. Expressing emotions in a artistic form should in no way be considered a crime, however being that it took place in a very rigorous country with strong religious beliefs it is easy to see why they were offended. However, that was very brave of Pussy Riot to take the risk of performing Moscow's cathedral and because of that they are proof of trying to gain women power back.
"Masha Alekhina said, I told them that I was proud to continue the dissidents traditions"
This quote bounces off of my previous quote for obvious reasons, this proves that Pussy Riot is not afraid to represent woman rights and power, and remaining to be resilient no matter the circumstance.
