Quotes from 'Seeing Power' Chap 5

  Quote 1.

"Yet the fact remains that the capacity to view the local relationships of power--the ability to see which people in New Orleans would need to be on board with this project to make it matter locally--eluded a qualified outsiders grasp".

New Orleans residents were probably reluctant in the beginning to try and gain a lot of celebrity attention, but they later realized how important it was to gain their attention, so the conditions of NOLA could be recognized to gain the help that they needed. In order for them to have help from people with higher power, they first had to show they cared by contributing to restoring Nola their selves.

Quote 2.

"While the desire to police power could be extremely alienating, it is important for the collective infrastructure to be aware of how power can develop".

The thought of police having a lot of power, especially with how they are being portrayed lately, makes most of us feel unsafe. But this is a prime example of how we should realize how power develops. Some people tend to use fear as a tactic to have control, if we allow them to have this held over us, they will continue to do so because it is efficient.

Quotes from 'Seeing Power' Chap 6

"The idea of becoming allows us to think of ourselves not as static isolated identities, but, instead, ever malleable potentialities".

When we think of the idea of us evolving and progressing we tend to feel accomplished, like were doing something right. When we chose to not accept change or evolution we feel stagnant and depressed, because we feel like time is moving but our lives are not showing any progress.

" As we've seen, we are influenced more by the people around us and the spaces we circulate through than we might have ever imagined"

Subconsciously we allow the people and atmospheres we surround our-self around the most to influence our behavior. Most of the times we are not aware how we are being influenced, sometimes we are and are able to catch ourselves. That is why they usually say "you are who you surround your-self with". Which is why its important to be around people who inspire you and will help motivate you to elevate your life.
