Intro Question

In media, whether it be social media, news media, and others is to be aware of current trends and share with other people. This can be applied to new fashion that many people wear or picture themselves wearing one day. Another one can be the latest trend in music (whichever type of genre). We as people, consumer and readers tend to fit in with today's society and not be behind on the latest trend. When it comes to my role in media consumption I am oblivious to what is happening in the world today. This doesn’t mean that I’m ignorant or don’t really care what is happening to the world around me. I just pay attention to news that affects me and the people around me. Most people in our society have this concept of having social media like facebook, twitter, and other social media platform to follow trends. The most common trend that people usually follow in media today is fashion, music, and blogs. Unlike others, I don’t really use social that much. The only social media platform that I usually use is Tumblr to see a picture of landscape or different areas of the country. Since I like to draw, I use these landscape and setting for inspiration.
When it comes to, "how much of our common experience involves shared mass media images, events, and stories?", we usually spread news, messages or trends via social media. When there is a current event or a topic that is happening currently people would start paying attention , read articles or news to prevent from being behind on current trends. For example, in news media and other social media platform uses sports as a news for people to be aware of current games within the season.
Social Media is not only used for entertainment purposes or to follow the latest trend, but it's used to spread news of current events, protest and movements. One of the major example of this can be seen years ago when the hashtag black lives matter started (#BlackLivesMatter). This movement was created because of violence, racism, and discrimination towards the African American Community. Not only that but the African American suffers from police brutality. Instead of helping the community they sworn to protect, the would harm these poor people. Due to this injustice that these people suffered from, the African American community created the Black Lives Matter movement in social media. A protest, activism and resistance doesn't only occur in social media, but it can also occur in media as well. For example, the music "Blacker the Berries" by Kendrick Lamar, talks about how African American are being treated in today's society. This music was in tended to show how cruel this world can be towards the African Americans. The combination of social media and protest is not a terrible combination, in fact it is used constantly in social media. These type of protest that start in social media is a good start because it can make people aware of what is occurring in our world. Also, this type of combination can shows people's disagreements on a situation. This combination can be artistically or even by composing music. Either ways the people are showing anger to the world in a peaceful way.
