Who Am I ?

It comes to my surprise that I actually had difficulty answering this question, although media was born around the time I was. For the fact, that it has been around me my whole life I never took a chance to realize how much of media I consume on a daily basis. Consuming media can vary from books, magazines, televisions, movies, cellphones, and of course the internet. My first piece of technology was a computer where I would play Sims. My father use to play the original one and I just took over and became obsessed. I am not sure if many are familiar but you have the ability to create and do whatever you want basically in the game. I always find myself stuck for hours maybe it is because I am able to express whatever comes to my imagination. Not only was I exposed to a PC at home but in elementary school, students were required to take a computer class. I remember being on the internet as a young girl playing with others in my classroom through a website called, Club Penguin. On this website we would be able to chat and interact through games and text dialogues with different people around the world. Thinking back now, I see how powerful that was for a group of elementary students to be interacting with people outside of the classroom. Many years later, we still have this type of interaction but on a whole different level. Social media is so important and influential in this era, it allows us to interact with people around the globe and opens doors of unlimited information. Lets be honest, if it wasn't for sites like google, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram we wouldn't really be exposed to the vast knowledge we gain from those sites. We use it for entertainment, music, business, politics, education, health, beauty, sports and so on.

My media consumption on a daily basis mostly is spent on Instagram, twitter and snap chat and other means of media like magazines and television but not as frequent as those social media sites. Being on social media is so easily accessible through the use of cellphones which makes it so much more powerful, its at the touch of your hand. I always have my phone on me, there are moment I can not check it but I have a sense of peace having it on me. As Instagram raised its platform in the media world, sites such as Facebook declined in popularity by people not using it. Instagram has changed how it works throughout the years; it had the ability to serve as a personal and/or a business account for everyone. I use Instagram personally to keep up with what is going on with my friends and in the world this includes celebrity news, politics, music, current events but also to learn about lighter things like beauty tips, fashion, exercise, and even for my career! I want to be a physical therapist and currently I am working in a physical therapy facility but I felt that I wanted to know a little more about it. Instagram is a perfect opportunity to read, learn and watch videos on therapy techniques that will help me gain skills for the future. I have even came across actual Physical therapist who have made business pages to promote health tips both their community of patients or  just a follower like I.

(This is an actual screenshot from my phone @rehabscience. This technique can be done alone as well and helps for back pain)
With other sites such as Pinterest it has allowed me to actually influence my life based on something I learned on it.  I use it for almost everything, DIY, makeover, hair, trends, shoes, ideas, motivational quotes and now a new feature to even be able to buy things on there! Mostly I use it for the  gym and my own  lifestyle habit. Exercise has always been important for me but found myself over the years wanting to learn more about nutrition and exercise. A lot of people would hire gym trainers and even a nutritionist to help them achieve their goals. Pinterest has helped me change that for my life, I have had the ability to learn a lot about nutrition and exercise and what happens when you mix both. I have even found myself teaching others of what I learned on social media sites. That is the power of media, it has the ability to allows us to share our voice and thoughts. I have pasted some of the images that I find on the site and use for my own workouts. Please feel free to use!

With social media we can express ourselves in many ways and share with others our ideas. Which is why media is so influential in today's current world, we are exposed to media from all over the world. Media such as television has had a great impact on movements and acts of resistance. However, now that social media has brought almost all sources of media together such as television, books, newspaper etc..it proves how much more powerful it is. It allow us to encourage each other, communicate with people and share our stories. We have the freedom to say what we want through media and this makes people feel heard. However, when a large community of people get together and use different forms of media to get their message across, it becomes an even greater and powerful platform for people who feel they are unvoiced. More and more in our present day life we have seen movements born out of media and grow because of the networking it offers. There are no limitation when communicating with people on these sites. We have the ability to literally communicate within seconds to people around the globe. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram  use hashtags (#) to make it even more easier to follow along. Movements such as #BlackLiveMatter #Metoo #TakeaKnee have been only a few of the movements the past couple of years that exponentially grown because of that networking. Please see below to read more about the hashtags. It is important to keep in mind the power of media, it can be a positive thing for an individual but can negatively impact if it is excessively consumed.
