Most of my childhood revolves around media making and media consumption. Cameras were important to my sister and I were always performing. We would act, sing, and dance our hearts out in front of the camera. Making videos was our way of entertaining our selves. We used camcorders, digital cameras, and flip phones to record. We would upload videos onto youtube and be thrilled overtime someone viewed it. Our videos never sent an important message but it was all for fun. Today, media consumption is enormous. Everyone is impacted by media in different forms. Social media has gotten big in advertisements and influencers to sell products. Trying to convince consumers that the product will improve their life is some way.

When I was in high school a lot of who I was measured against media examples and images. This a phase that everyone experiences as a child. You're not completely sure of your interests, likes, and wants. It's a time for self-discovering. As of today, I'm not super impressionable by media. There are things that get my attention, such as beauty products/cosmetics. But that's because it is one of my interests and I do plan on pursuing a career in that industry. The makeup industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. There is all types of media around cosmetics which helps sell. They're selling "beauty" and the chance to be happier because you are now "beautiful." Media doesn't only cover the cosmetic industry, it also shares news amongst the world. It brings us knowledge and makes us more aware of what is going on around the world. In a sense, it brings us closer.

Colin Kaepernick has made headlines by protesting the national anthem due to the black lives matter protest. He refuses to stand for a country that continues to have an issue with the dilemma. Kaepernick has used his fame/platform to bring awareness to this matter. The national anthem is always televised before any game, with all eyes on the San Fransisco 49ers, Kaepernick took a knee. He lost his position on the time and continues to stand by what he did. I respect that he risked his platform and career for this movement. It was something that was being ignored and not dealt with. As the statistics got worse, he decided to do something. More celebrities should take a stand like that.
