Who I Think I Am Question

Whether we like it or not, we all have our full share in media consumption. This generation is raised with having every source of social, political, or industrial media at our fingertips. I remembered there was a time where I only used the internet to play games on websites such as Primary Games, CoolMath.com, and even Disney Channel. A time where I was not allowed to use Myspace or other social media websites that was used back then. Now, times have changed. Today, many people depend on different types of media to know what is going on in the world, as well as following new trends and fads that everyone raving about. I try to keep my media consumptions at a minimum. Yes, I still follow today’s news and know what the hottest thing is, but I try not to be too dependent on today’s media.

During a course in my life, between high school and now, I have developed a curiosity in gaining more knowledge of my culture. I am from two different cultures—Black and Hispanic. Both cultures are equally important to me. That being said, my thirst for knowledge for the two are one of the most interesting topics I have in the media. During my research of both cultures, I attend to have pity for African Americans, who suffer a great deal of injustice and Hispanics, who often get pushed aside for trying to make a better life. Being a child of both cultures, I have learned from the media of how to treat all walks of life.

Media is our central source of information regards to different types of news, whether it is about natural disasters, political issues between different countries, or new medical discoveries. Not all media is a bad thing. As college students, social media and others sources may be our way of making connections in the career paths of our choosing. We rely on media to give us accurate data of information, but that is not always the case.

The media does cover activists, acts of resistance and protest. An example of this is the movements of feminism. I am not a feminist, but those who are use all forms of media in order to have their voice heard. Using media can create an influence on the public; ultimate leading to establishing a movement. Another example of a way media covers protests is the recent news report of a woman police officer shooting a man in his own apartment. I think that media can be a great way to get your message across and get into the minds of those looking in. https://youtu.be/jWQRDwaHRfQ
