Who I Am
My role in media consumption is at an interesting position because I like to stay up to date with all world news via online publications, readings, etc. I also like to watch material and entertainment that makes me laugh such as funny posts or videos. I rarely watch T.V., but I like to listen to a ton of music on iTunes. This is normally what I do in terms of media consumption.
Most of my experiences are shaped by media since I tend to be very involved in what is put out there and I rely on those experiences to shape myself into who I am or will be in the future. This means that what I see or hear can have the effect into changing my views on things, as is the case with everyone. However, this does not mean I let my character be defined by media. I choose what to watch, what to read, or even what to listen to but tend to avoid the current trends that does not match with my persona. I like to indulge myself in news that can I can relate to and reflect on, so in the end I have the upper hand against this materialistic society.
The media has a very powerful role when it comes to covering movements, resistances, and protests. All of the current movements share a big space on social media, online news, and even television. I think it is a good idea for all these movements to be shared online because a lot of people have immediate access to the world around them. I believe it is both good and bad that such movements get a lot of attention. It is bad because sometimes the images and stories put out there are not always 100% true. This is where using your own judgment and beliefs come into play. Besides this, I think it is good to see a lot of media coverage on such important times in history. It gives us a feeling of belonging and can empower us to act out in what we believe is right.
